Whether earning credit directly from completed coursework or prior learning assessment, transfer is awarded in four different ways: as a direct course equivalent, general education/core, general elective, or subject elective.
Direct course equivalents are awarded for specific courses offered at receiving institutions.
General education/core transfer credits satisfy general education/core requirements, such as social science or fine arts.
General elective credit (example GEL xxx) recognizes the college-level work completed, but it may not directly relate to a course or subject offered at the receiving institution.
Subject elective credit recognizes the subject of the transfer (example: PSY xxx), but the receiving institution does not have an equivalent course.
