Description:
This micro-credential recognizes and validates learners successful completion of the University of Maine System (UMS) Inclusive Education PreK-12 (Levels 1, 2, and 3 badges). Learners complete training to support emergent skills, knowledge, and application in foundational principles of inclusive practices in education. Learners meet indicators from the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) Advanced Preparation Standards and the Maine State Inclusion Framework.
- Level 1: foundational learning principles in the field of inclusive special education, including a historical timeline and U.S. laws that govern special education, research regarding positive outcomes of inclusion, and key instructional practices. Online modules are designed to be completed in approximately 5 hours.
- Level 2: competency in effective and ethical practices, as well as knowledge of the universal design for learning (UDL) framework, academic adaptations, positive supports for students with challenging behavior, and collaborative models for inclusive education. Online modules and assignments are designed to be completed in approximately 7 hours.
- Level 3: learners write a personal vision for inclusion, develop inclusive lesson plans using the ULD framework, and build a toolkit of resources and strategies for collaboration with colleagues and families. This level is designed to be completed in approximately 8 hours.
The training was developed by subject-matter experts from the Special Education Department at the University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) and the Center for Community Inclusion and Disability Studies at the University of Maine (UMaine). 2.0 CEUs/20 contact hours associated.
Who is eligible to register?
This micro-credential is open to any practicing PreK-12 educator or staff member, pre-service educator, and/or interested community member. 2.0 CEUs/20 contact hours.
