Description:
Learners who earn the University of Maine System (UMS) 4-H Outdoor Leadership micro-credential (Levels 1, 2, and 3) complete training in outdoor leadership and apply their learning in a real-world outdoor leadership setting. They develop an understanding of and connection to college- and career opportunities related to outdoor leadership. Learners are able to safely lead personal trips with friends and family in backcountry settings. They develop core competencies in:
- at least two disciplines of outdoor activities (ex. canoeing, backpacking, cross-country skiing, bouldering and climbing)
- group management and group dynamics
- safety and risk assessment
- orienteering
- wilderness first aid
Who is eligible to register?
- University of Maine (UMaine) Early College students ages 16-18
- 4-H youth participants
- Other approved participants
What is the delivery mode?
In person.
How can I earn this micro-credential?
UMaine Early College Outdoor Intensive
- Learners participate in a ten-day summer residential course at a 4-H Camp & Learning Center and earn UMaine college credits for KPE265: Outdoor & Adventure Activities (3 course credits) and KPE207: Wilderness First Aid (1 course credit).
