Concurrent Enrollment Course Drops/Withdrawals Must Be Requested in ExplorEC
If a student no longer plans to take a Concurrent Enrollment (CE) course, they must submit a drop/withdraw request in ExplorEC.
Why: Without this request, the student stays enrolled in MaineStreet and could receive a failing grade on their university transcript.
Action for counselors/CE instructors:
- Need help? View How to Submit a Drop/Withdrawal Request.
- Have the student log in to ExplorEC and submit a drop/withdraw request for the course.
- Request it before published deadlines.
Lifetime Credit Caps/Semester Limits
For more details view the email sent on September 4th on our Announcements Webpage.
Quick reminder of the credit policy updates:
- 18-credit lifetime limit for Aspirations-funded coursework (Class of 2027 and beyond).
- The former 12-credits-per-year cap is eliminated.
- Career & Technical Education students in approved pathways through the Maine Community College System (MCCS) may earn an additional 6 credits for a total of 24.
- Per-semester course limits (UMS/MCCS, combined):
- Summer: up to 2 courses (not in the same condensed session)
- Fall: up to 3 courses
- Spring: up to 3 courses
- Year-long CE courses count in fall or spring (with EC office approval); students still register in fall.
- EC offices may deny or limit enrollment based on prior academic performance; limits may apply even if families can self-pay.
- Goal: keep the framework simple, transparent, and easy to track while supporting intentional course-taking for Maine students.
Duplicate ExplorEC Accounts
ExplorEC accounts are used to create official MaineStreet accounts for each student. If a student thinks they have created an account in the past, DO NOT have them create a new account. There are 2 things they can do:
- If they have forgotten their password, but know what email they used to create their ExplorEC/OnCourse account, then they can use the forgot password option on the student login page to receive a password reset link by email.
- If they are unsure of the username/email they used to sign up, then they must email ExplorECaccounts@maine.edu. They should provide their full (legal) name, date of birth, and current or former high school so that we can help them regain access as quickly as possible.
Applications submitted from duplicate accounts WILL NOT be processed.
The ExplorEC Portal will Open for Spring 2026 Applications on Friday, November 7th.
You can view semester registration information on our ExplorEC Portal webpage.
