These FAQs reflect insights and suggestions from faculty, administrators, and professional staff. This page will be updated periodically as the Unified Catalog initiative progresses.

The project lead is the Associate Vice Chancellor for Accreditation and Strategic Initiatives working in close collaboration with a 20+ member Project Team, the University of Maine System (UMS) Chief Information Officer, the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and many others. Crucially, several groups of faculty will be sharing information and ideas in spring 2022 and beyond about multi-campus academic programs, collaborative courses, MaineStreet functionality, and related subjects. Faculty input will inform the creation of an academic roadmap for the Unified Catalog work beginning in spring 2022 and continuing in parallel with IT’s development of the technical roadmap for the RePaving MaineStreet project.

Once established, the schedule for the RePaving MaineStreet work will guide the timeline for changes in MaineStreet. We will post additional information about the timing of the work as it becomes available.

Feedback from faculty (as described in the FAQ about who is involved in the initiative), the chief academic officers, registrars, financial aid directors, professional advisors, and others will help to identify alignments of policy and/or practice to be pursued with the express goal of supporting seamless academic activity in areas such as course registration, transfer, degree planning, and financial aid tracking. The project lead will coordinate with the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and the chief academic officers, faculty, registrars, and many others on the nature and timing of any proposed changes.

The project lead will work with the Project Team and with faculty groups to identify resource needs and opportunities in the context of this initiative.

No. We will not merge the individual university and University of Maine School of Law catalogs. The “unified” nature of this initiative reflects

  1. our commitment to using unified accreditation as a tool for improving opportunities and outcomes for students, faculty, and staff; and
  2. the bringing together of our collective resources in one place so all students and faculty on all campuses and instructional sites can access and make optimal use of them.
