This knowledge exchange trip brought faculty and students from the University of Southern Maine, along with partners from Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness, to South Greenland to learn and share more about sustainable tourism initiatives.
Sustainable Tourism: The delegation gained hands-on experience with tourist site assessments, site manager interviews, and local stakeholder interviews in communities surrounding UNESCO World Heritage sites in South Greenland. The delegation partnered with Campus Kujalleq faculty and students to delve more deeply into the impacts of the tourism industry on local communities to inform recommendations for future sustainable tourism initiatives, which included visits to Uunartoq and Alluitsup Paa.
Culinary Arts: The delegation also partnered with faculty and students at Inuili Food College in South Greenland to learn more about sustainable agriculture and culinary arts, which included a collaborative project involving the creation of a cross-cultural cookbook called “A Taste of Two Worlds.” The cookbook went on to achieve international recognition at the Gourmand Awards in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, winning in three categories. During this knowledge exchange trip, the town of Narsaq (home of Inuili Food College) was invited to attend a community dinner featuring co-created recipes from the cookbook.
