The THOR Institute is excited to announce new opportunities for students to deepen and broaden their experiences and interests this semester! We hope this academic year brings exciting new challenges to conquer as you embark on this next chapter of your academic journey.
We wanted to highlight some exciting ways to connect with the THOR (Tourism, Hospitality, and Outdoor Recreation) Institute this semester:
Apply for the Fall 2025 THOR Student Fellowship
This fellowship is intended to support students committed to applying their experience and interest within the THOR related academic disciplines to connect more broadly with the community. Students receive a $1000 stipend AND a $1000 tuition scholarship for their work. The deadline to apply is Friday, September 12.
The short application can be found here.
Opportunities available to connect with organizations such as Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness, Maine Huts & Trails, the Maine Bound Adventure Center, the World Affairs Council of Maine, and to serve as a research assistant on an exciting University Maine research project focused on making the outdoors more accessible for everyone.
Declare the THOR Minor
This newly established 18 credit multicampus minor offers students a broader understanding of the state of Maine as a whole in the contexts of tourism, hospitality and outdoor recreation – and the first 25 students to declare will receive a $1000 tuition scholarship, applied to your fall bill! This opportunity is open to students from all 7 of Maine’s public universities.
If you are interested in declaring the THOR minor, please complete this brief Google form.
Don’t miss out on these opportunities to delve more deeply into your interests in tourism, hospitality, and outdoor recreation in and around the state of Maine! We look forward to connecting with you to find out more about how we can support you on your academic and professional journey.
