
Blake Shepherd serves as the Graduate Student Representative on the University of Maine System Board of Trustees. He is currently a student at the University of Maine School of Law and graduated from Bates College in 2023 with a B.A. in Hispanic Studies and Education.
Prior to law school, Blake worked at Bates College, the Maine Immigrants’ Rights Coalition, and his family’s business, Camp Skylemar, a summer sports camp in Naples, Maine. At Skylemar, Blake serves as Assistant Director of his family’s 78-year-old camp, helping oversee the wellbeing and daily operations of a residential community of more than 350 campers and staff. At MIRC, he co-directed two shelters serving asylum seekers in Portland. After graduating early from Bates, Blake also co-taught a course alongside a tenured professor titled Understanding Migration to Maine.
Blake brings the perspective of both a student and educator, as well as extensive experience managing residential communities and youth programs. He is deeply committed to the University of Maine System’s mission to provide an accessible and affordable education that transforms students’ lives while supporting Maine’s long-term needs.
Blake is also a proud uncle to three wonderful nieces and nephews.
