Description:
This micro-credential recognizes and validates the learner’s successful completion of the University of Maine System (UMS) Nursing Administration pathway (Levels 1, 2, and 3 badges). At each level, learners complete one or two graduate courses, which are taught by University of Southern Maine (USM) faculty. The twelve graduate course credits earned can count toward a master’s degree or post-master’s graduate certificate.
Learners gain knowledge and skills in core nursing leadership practices and their application within complex healthcare environments; health care operations, including human resources, law, and ethics; and health care finance, budgeting, and planning.
At Level 3, learners apply their acquired skills and competencies in a 135-hour practicum course where they demonstrate their ability to:
- model the role of the nurse administrator,
- apply nursing leadership strategies,
- conduct an organizational assessment,
- develop and presenting a healthcare improvement plan, and
- develop a leadership development plan.
The Nursing Administration Micro-Credential is based on the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education and American Organization for Nursing Leadership Nurse Leader Core Competencies. Evidence is verified and approved by authorized UMS faculty to ensure quality and rigor.
Who is eligible to register?
Any licensed nursing professional with a bachelor’s degree or higher is eligible to enroll, including current USM graduate students and licensed nursing professionals who are not currently studying at the USM.
What is the cost to the learner?
Costs will vary depending on two factors: whether the learner is currently enrolled in a USM degree program, and a learner’s residency (in-state, out-of-state, or Canadian). Many employers offer tuition reimbursement. See the USM Nursing Micro-Credential web page (External Link) for details.
What is the delivery mode?
Hybrid:
- Levels 1-2: Online Asynchronous
- Level 3: In-Person practicum
