March 2022 Update

Unified Catalog Update

Since late February, Associate Vice Chancellor St. John has met with our faculty senates/assemblies at the University of Maine (UMaine), University of Southern Maine (USM), University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI), University of Maine at Fort Kent (UMFK), University of Maine at Augusta (UMA), and the Law School, and will meet shortly with the University of Maine at Machias (UMM), University of Maine at Farmington (UMF), and the University of Maine System (UMS) Faculty Governance Council. Conversations with these faculty leaders are focused in part on a proposed approach to improving three areas of academic policy and practice: the domestic “study away” form, some facets of internal transfer, and the residency requirement. Individually and in combination, these areas illustrate how reconciling relatively minor differences in policy or practice across our universities will help us remove long-standing barriers to student and faculty success. Through an open, clear process, and with a firm commitment to faculty shared governance, we look forward to collaborating with faculty to address these areas and improve access and opportunity for all.

We will share a further update on this work in April.
