The University of Maine System (UMS) offers medical plans that cover a wide range of services, from hospitalization to doctor’s office visits, from prescription drugs to surgery. Whichever medical plan selected, employees can be sure that it is there to protect them from financially burdensome medical bills. Medical plans will be insured with Anthem as of January 1, 2026. 

International Travel: While the UMS medical plan does not include international coverage, emergency care is covered while traveling overseas. TruHearing Healthcare Program   

TruHearing is Anthems preferred vendor for traditional and OTC hearing aids, which helps eliminate issues related to balance billing and providers requiring members to sign waivers. With transparent pricing, there are no surprises regarding the cost of hearing aids. TruHearing offers a concierge-type service for our members. Virtual Care with LiveHealth Online

Anthems online options let you get the care you need where you need it. Anthem provides access to telehealth services as part of your medical plan, in partnership with LiveHealth Online (LHO). With LHO, you can access telehealth visits from anywhere. All you need is a smartphone, tablet, or computer! The care options available to you through LHO include Annual Wellness visits, Virtual primary care, Urgent Care, Allergy, Therapy, and Psychiatry appointments.

Prescription Drug Coverage

Both OAP Quality Incentive plan options offered by the University of Maine System provide employees with prescription drug coverage. All employees are covered for both generic drugs and brand name drugs. Because brand name drugs are typically more expensive than generic drugs, you should ask your physician to prescribe a generic drug, if appropriate. All enrollees have the opportunity to use the mail order program. The mail-order program allows the convenience of having a three-month supply of maintenance drugs delivered right to their home!

Cost-Saving Measures

  • Choose in-network providers – Choosing in-network providers ensures less out-of-pocket expenses and better outcomes. To find an in-network provider call 1-833-621-0305 or visit our how to find a provider page (External Site)
  • Check your Tier for Prescription Drugs – Tier levels determine your cost. 
  • Talk to your doctor about alternatives to the Emergency Room – Whenever possible, see your PCP or use a walk-in health care facility in your community instead of going to a hospital Emergency Room.
