
Amon Purinton serves as General Counsel for the University of Maine System, leading the Office of General Counsel and providing strategic legal advice to the Chancellor, UMS Board of Trustees, and University leadership across the System’s seven universities.
Amon joined UMS in 2021 and has worked in all legal areas impacting UMS including governance, labor and employment, corporate and transactions, real estate, student conduct, Title IX, free speech, athletics, research compliance, and healthcare.
Before coming to UMS, he spent several years in healthcare compliance at Northern Light Health, including as Director of Compliance at Northern Light Acadia Hospital. Earlier, Amon practiced business law at a law firm in Bangor, Maine. He began his legal career as a judicial law clerk for the New Hampshire Superior Court. Amon holds a Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of New Mexico, and he is a licensed attorney in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.
