Maine school counselors and educators, you’re invited to take an expenses-paid trip* to Portland…plus receive a scholarship for your high school to award to a college-bound senior!

As you prepare for the 2023-2024 academic year, the THOR Institute is offering a unique opportunity to learn more about some of Maine’s hottest industries. This upcoming conference will help you connect student passions to solid career pathways in Maine’s Tourism, Hospitality, and Outdoor Recreation sectors!

Join your colleagues from around the state at the University of Southern Maine and connect with the industries  that may just get your students on the path to the perfect career. 

  • Connect with faculty from every campus in the University of Maine System (Augusta, Farmington, Fort Kent, Orono, Machias, Presque Isle, Southern Maine) as well as colleagues from high schools around the state
  • Spend 1 or 2 nights in Portland, the urban center of Vacationland – lodging and most meals provided
  • Take city tours, a boat excursion, and more! You can add on group walks on Portland’s extensive trail system and a yoga class, too
  • Learn how your students can launch successful careers as part of these crucial Maine industries
  • Receive a scholarship on behalf of your school, to award to a graduating senior who wants to pursue a degree in a tourism, hospitality, or outdoor recreation major anywhere in the University of Maine System

*This opportunity is extended to State of Maine school counselors, educators (or other designated representatives) to partake in an all-expense paid trip to Portland, Maine and attend an educational THOR conference at the University of Southern Maine on July 31 – August 1. Please fill out the form to attend. While we hope to offer a spot to all who apply, the THOR Institute will review form submissions to ensure at least one counselor from each school is able to attend; a waitlist will be developed for others and every effort made to accommodate those that want to attend.
