The Business & Law Clinic is a first-of-its-kind collaboration between University of Maine Graduate School of Business, University of Maine School of Law, and the Maine Graduate and Professional Center. This unique program pairs Maine Law and MBA students to support early-stage entrepreneurs and under-resourced businesses across Maine. The Clinic helps strengthen Maine’s small business economy by offering pro bono legal and business services to companies that may not yet have the resources to hire private attorneys or consultants.

Student teams work directly with clients under the guidance of experienced faculty, including Legal Director and Professor of Practice, Erin Cusenbary, and from Business Director and Entrepreneur in Residence, Hugh Stevens. This hands-on approach allows students to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world setting while providing entrepreneurs with practical, comprehensive advice on how to grow and scale their businesses

Services are tailored to the needs of each client and may include:

Business Services:
  • HR strategy
  • Financial modeling
  • Market research
  • Fundraising strategy
  • Strategic planning
Legal Services:
  • Choice of entity counseling
  • Entity formation
  • Trademark and copyright protections
  • Corporate housekeeping counseling
  • Contract review
  • Permitting
