Mills Administration, Public Higher Education Systems Coordinating Response to COVID-19

Augusta, Maine — The Mills Administration through Maine Emergency Management Agency has signed agreements with the University of Maine System and the Maine Community College System to coordinate requests for assistance and the deployment of resources to assist in Maine’s response to the COVID-19 public health emergency.  These agreements, signed on Sunday, March 22, identify the roles and responsibilities of Maine’s public higher education systems and MEMA and how the systems will assist with response and recovery efforts.

“I appreciate the cooperation of our public higher education systems as State government responds to the spread of COVID-19 in Maine,” said Governor Janet Mills. “This MOU positions us to take advantage of their resources if necessary. From our University and Community College systems to individual Maine people, everyone plays a role in mitigating the spread of the virus, and I am grateful to our public higher education systems for their help.”

As part of their emergency response efforts UMS and MCCS are each actively identifying potential resources that can be contributed to assist with the state response to COVID-19.  The availability of materials and plans for distribution will be coordinated with MEMA officials.

UMS REMINDER:  Faculty and staff who have recommendations on University resources and materials that could be transferred to the relief effort are encouraged to send these suggestions to UMSC19Request@Maine.edu for coordination, approval, and tracking.   Review of all suggestions will be expedited.
