Welcoming Veterans & Military
The University of Maine System welcomes veterans who have served active or reserve duty in our country’s armed forces (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard).
If you are a veteran, you may be eligible to receive educational assistance benefits through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The VA certifying official at each of our universities, often referred to as the School Certifying Official (SCO), can help you apply for your VA educational benefits and walk you through the certification process. Use the links below to find your institution’s SCO.
UMS greatly appreciates the dedication of our many students who continue to serve while pursuing their education. In an effort to assist students who are called to active duty, UMS has adopted a Student Activation and Mobilization Policy to offer guidance to ensure that the choice to serve does not negatively impact academic progress. If military service leads to a deployment, activation, or extended training that impacts class attendance or participation, accommodations may be available. For additional information, please reach out to your institution’s SCO.
