I know my major and where I want to transfer

Congratulations! Your next steps are simple.

  1. Apply to the campus of your choice. You will be given an opportunity to select your major within the application.
  2. You can also use our “what if” analysis to project how your current coursework will apply to your degree program at your new campus.
  3. Make sure your transcripts get to your campus of choice. How your current transcripts get to your chosen campus depends on where you are transferring from.
    1. I have coursework only from a University of Maine System campus or campuses
      1. Your transcripts can be pulled internally by the campus you transfer to
    2. I have University of Maine System coursework as well as coursework from an institution outside the University of Maine System.
      1. Your University of Maine System transcripts will be pulled internally. You’ll need to contact all other institutions from which you’ve earned credit and request to have your official transcripts forwarded to:
        Application Processing
        University of Maine System
        PO Box 412
        Bangor, ME 04402-0412.
    3. I have coursework from colleges or universities that are not part the University of Maine System.
      1. Please contact each college or university you’ve attended or are currently attending.
      2. Ask each institution to forward an official transcript to:
        Application Processing
        University of Maine System
        PO Box 412
        Bangor, ME 04402-0412.
      3. If you are currently enrolled, you may have your transcripts sent now to facilitate an admissions decision, but you’ll need to request a final transcript once this current semester is graded.
  4. Apply for Federal Financial aid at your new campus. Go to http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

I'm already a University of Maine System student and just want some classes from another campus

Students can take classes at any U.Maine System campus without transferring their matriculation. Your campus of matriculation is the university you intend to earn your degree from and graduate from – it is your home campus.

You can take classes at other U.Maine System campuses WITHOUT transferring your matriculation in a couple different ways:

  1. You can enroll in classes offered online or through other types of distance learning technologies from the Distance Learning Class Search in MaineStreet. Ask your advisor or campus Advising Center to show you how.
  2. You can request to “study away” for a semester and attend classes on-site at another campus. Then send the credit you earn back to your home campus.
  3. Your financial aid can follow you to your “study away” campus

Either way, you will want to work carefully with your advisor at your home campus to make sure credits earned at your “study away” institution will transfer back to your home campus in the way you intend. Many campuses have “Study Away” forms that assist with this process. Be sure to check your home campus procedure. Most campuses have forms to help make sure you’ve done everything you need.
