Adult Transfer Student
Whether your intent is to update your knowledge in your current profession, finish a degree, start a new career path or return for personal growth, it is never too late.
Adults represent a large and growing portion of University of Maine System enrollment (36% of all degree students and 61% of non-degree students). Our returning adult students take advantage of the flexible delivery options which include: online, hybrid, intensive/weekend, videoconference, multi-campus, and collaborative degrees.
We recognize the value of life experience. The University of Maine System offers non-traditional ways of obtaining credit through Prior Learning Assessment – credit for life and work experience, CLEP and DSST (DANTES) credit, and challenge exams.
Previous credits from regionally accredited institutions generally do not expire! Some majors may require that coursework be updated in order to be current in the field. As always, our transfer advisors are ready to assist you individually (see contacts).
The University of Maine System has a new adult degree completion scholarship fund to help Maine people complete their academic studies—which may have begun years ago, but were not completed for some reason.
To help adult students navigate the path to a degree, the University of Maine System has established local “navigators” to help our adult students understand the terminology, complete the application process, and enroll in classes. Our navigators will help student achieve their educational goals through activities such as applying to a university, choosing a major, finding financial assistance, and registering for courses.
