The above Data reflects ACTIVE known cases identified through the UMS asymptomatic screening and other testing venues.  When an individual is released from an isolation order by a public health agency the active case number shared in the Together for Maine daily update is reduced to reflect that change.  UMS is reporting 27 known cases today, five cases more than the cases reported in the 11/7/20 update.

Asymptomatic Screening Update for Fall Safe Return

  • 29,959 Test Results to Date
  • 37 positives results representing new diagnoses of COVID-19

The Asymptomatic Screening Dashboard at Together.Maine.edu represents known results on all asymptomatic tests going back to July 22, 2020.  About 48 hours passes from the time a test sample is collected and when the results are known.

UMF Campus Message from President Edward Serna (11/8/20):

Dear UMF Community –

We have received notification of a UMF community member testing positive for COVID-19 after participating in the Phase III Round VI asymptomatic random sampling testing process. The individual is currently in isolation and their roommate has been moved into quarantine. Both students are receiving appropriate support at this time. The positive test result has been reported to the Maine CDC, which will lead contact tracing and notify employees, students, and visitors who may have been affected with support from UMF. You may be contacted by the CDC and/or UMF if affected.

Final Phase III Round VII random sample testing will be held the week before Thanksgiving Break on November 11 – November 17. Random sample testing is crucial in minimizing the spread of the coronavirus at our campus. If randomly selected to participate, you are required to engage in the process.

As cases in Franklin County, and across Maine, continue to rise, it is important that we remain steadfast in our commitment to the health and safety guidelines. You must wear your face covering even when maintaining a safe distance is possible, always keep your distance, and wash your hands well and often for at least 20 seconds.

We’re nearing the in-person finish line, and I have hope that we will all continue to do our part as a community to keep one another safe and healthy. We will be in touch as additional information becomes available.

We all wish our student a speedy recovery.

Be well, Beavers,

Edward

USM — Negative Wastewater Sample:  An expedited sample and analysis of the wastewater collected on Nov. 6 at the University of Southern Maine by the UMS Scientific Advisory Board chaired by UMaine President Ferrini-Mundy was negative.  The sample collected on Nov 3 was provisionally interpreted as higher than expected based on the known caseload.
