HIPAA GENERAL OPERATING POLICY # 21
USES AND DISCLOSURES FOR ORGAN, EYE OR TISSUE DONATION PURPOSES
I. General
If an individual is an organ donor, a HCC may use or disclose PHI to organ procurement organizations or other entities engaged in procurement, banking or transplantation of organs, eyes or tissue for the purpose of facilitating donation and transplantation.
II. Additional Requirements
Except in an emergency, a HCC shall consult with the Privacy Official and University Counsel prior to making a disclosure under this Policy.
