Section 203.1 Chancellor - Evaluation Process

Policy Statement:

The Board of Trustees shall conduct a formal review of the Chancellor's stewardship every three years beginning in April and lasting no more than three months. Tasks for conducting the review shall include, but not be limited to:

1. Appointment of an evaluation committee by the Chair of the Board.

2. Establishment of a specific schedule and time frame for the completion of the tasks necessary to the process.

3. Development of criteria which are objective, observable, and within the University of Maine System context regarding resources, priorities, goals, significant accomplishments and problems.

4. Solicitation of comments and suggestions from each Board member to include objectives that Trustees would like to see achieved.

5. Solicitation of comments and suggestions from each President to include objectives that Presidents would like to see achieved.

6. Solicitation of comments and suggestions from legislators and other relevant external parties.

7. Request for a self-assessment statement prepared by the Chancellor to include, but not limited to, the expectations and objectives held upon assuming office; degree to which such expectations and objectives were achieved; assessment of major factors which altered expectations and objectives; principal issues, concerns and opportunities presently confronting the System; and a discussion of the goals and objectives to be pursued over the next two years.

8. Development, with the Chancellor, of a set of goals and objectives to be achieved within an appropriate time frame.

9. Submission of a report by the Committee with recommendations, as appropriate, to the Board of Trustees.
