*************************************************************************

Mainframe End of Service
Announcement

*************************************************************************

This letter is to inform you of our plans for retiring the mainframe from service. You or your department have been identified as either having a mainframe userID or having tapes stored at the datacenter. Please carefully read the following information.

Migration of our administrative software applications (HR, Finance, Student Records, Student Financials and Financial Aid) from the mainframe to MaineStreet is nearly complete and we will be decommissioning the mainframe this year. It is important that you copy any programs, files and data you wish to save off the mainframe and tapes before it is turned off. Once the mainframe is turned off there will be no way to retrieve these data!

Who this affects

If you now or have in the past used CMS, CICS, ISIS, HRIS, Financier, FAMS, FAST, Natural or Nomad, or if you have used Hummingbird or tn3270 software to connect to maine.maine.edu - then you are a mainframe user and this notice affects you.

What data you need to copy

Data that is stored in the enterprise level applications that were on the mainframe will be copied by ITS (formerly UNET or CAPS) and made available to functional offices. This will cover HR, Finance, Financial Aid, Student Records and Student Financials.

So individuals need to review personal, individual and departmental files, programs or data and copy data that should be preserved. These data may be held on mainframe disk or on tapes stored at the datacenter and can be transferred from the mainframe using FTP (file transfer protocol).

There are some help files for FTP and the mainframe at:
