Maine's Public Universities - University of Maine System

Hardware and Software Requirements

Hardware

MaineStreet (PeopleSoft) applications are very powerful. Oracle/PeopleSoft recommends the following end user workstation hardware:

  • 256 MB RAM recommended (32 MB RAM minimum)
  • 800 MHz Pentium or equivalent processor recommended (Pentium 133 MHz minimum)

It is recommended that power users (those employees who may require three browsers in action simultaneously [e.g., two for transactions, one for process monitor]) have a system with 256 MB RAM. A minimum of 48 MB RAM is required for all power user applications.

A user who needs access to self-service functions only can confidently work with MaineStreet (PeopleSoft) using the minimum hardware recommendations.

Software

Because this system is web-based, no PeopleSoft software resides on an end user's workstation. An efficient web browser, however, is essential.

The following combinations of web browser and client operating systems are recommended by Oracle/PeopleSoft:

  • Internet Explorer 6 on Windows 98, NT 4, Windows 2000 and Windows XP
  • Internet Explorer 5.5 and 6.0 on NT 4, Windows 98, and Windows 2000
  • Netscape Navigator 7 on NT 4, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Linux, Mac OS9, and Mac OS X
  • Firefox 1.0 on Mac OS X, Windows NT 4, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Linux, and UNIX
  • Mozilla 1.7 on Linux, Mac OS X, and UNIX
