The University of Maine System believes in the power of higher education to transform lives and is committed to creating a more educated Maine.
Eligible employees and their dependents are encouraged to take advantage of the University’s Tuition Waiver Programs to enhance their personal and professional growth and development. Eligible employees may use tuition waivers in a degree program or for individual courses. Eligible dependents may use tuition waivers upon acceptance into a degree program.
Employees may also request time off to pursue their educational goals under the following programs:
• Schedule Reduction Opportunities
UMS offers multiple ways that employees may request to work a reduced schedule to pursue higher education.
• Unpaid Leave
Employees may request an unpaid leave for educational purposes. For details refer to the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements or Handbooks.
All UMS universities welcome veterans who are eligible for benefits under the GI Bill or the Yellow Ribbon Program. Under the Yellow Ribbon program, veterans who served at least three years on active duty after September 11, 2001 may be eligible for university funding for tuition that is matched by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. For further information, contact the university Veterans Services Office.
Employees who are interested in pursuing higher education may contact the university Advising Office for guidance.
