H1N1 Virus Planning & Preparation
UMS is working to maintain a healthy workplace and workforce.
Each UMS campus and university-related satellite office is affiliated with a recently activated emergency planning and preparation team (for convenience here, an “EPP.”) SWS operations, such as the System’s downtown Bangor office, are covered by an activated EPP team which is meeting on a regular basis as events unfold. Rosa Redonnett, UMS Executive Director of Student Affairs, and Jackie Curtis, UMS Risk Manager, are the designated coordinators of the SWS emergency planning and preparation team.
Clear and accurate information is essential during the evolution of the current H1N1 Flu ("Swine Flu") outbreak.The SWS EPP team has contingency plans to ensure employee safety, effective communication, and the seamless continuation of essential System Office services. SWS EPP team will direct department supervisors to establish plans for alternate work locations for employees and operations that are essential to continued operation of SWS. Supervisors will communicate these plans with their staff.
Actions are being taken to make sure that employees are made aware of any new developments that might affect them or the operation of their office or department. Any decision to close a UMS building or campus will be made on a case-by-case basis in consultation with State public health officials. In the event a decision is made to shut down or reduce operations at the Bangor office, employees would be contacted as quickly as possible through all of the following:
• A phone call to the employee’s home and/or cell phone
• A message sent to all Bangor-based SWS employees through their UMS
e-mail account
• A web site posting on this web page (www.maine.edu/UMSHealthUpdate)
• A recorded message on the SWS "Storm Line" 973-3298
The redundancy is intended to make sure that communications with employees is successful.
SWS employees who are located on a campus will follow the decisions and directives made by officials at that university.
Support co-workers who may be experiencing flu-like symptoms to seek medical attention.
