Maine’s public universities salute service with campus Veterans Day commemorations

AUGUSTA – In honor of Veterans Day, Maine’s public universities will host on-campus events Nov. 5-17 to recognize and thank those who have served.

Among the highlights is a free leadership address entitled “Mission First, Success Follows” on Thursday, Nov. 8 at the University of Southern Maine delivered by Staff Sgt. Ryan Pitts, one of New England’s three living Medal of Honor recipients.

The University of Maine System has received national recognition for the military friendly culture on its campuses and continues to serve more GI Bill recipients than any other Maine educational institution, public or private.  Maine’s public universities are working as One University to recruit Veterans and provide seamless supports to help them transition successfully from service to student to the workforce.

A complete schedule of its Veterans Day related events is below. The media and public are invited to attend. For more information about the services and communities for veterans on campuses within the University of Maine System, visit www.maine.edu/veterans.
