UC to Offer More Social Services Courses

Maine’s public universities will deliver more than 40 courses in the field of social services at University College in the upcoming fall semester. The courses will be taught on-site or delivered via interactive television and teleconference. Many courses also will be available online.

The courses will appeal to people seeking credentials or skill development in human and social services, which can include careers in social work, counseling, psychology and education. Courses are offered by Maine’s seven public universities and range from introductory level courses in psychology to graduate courses in social work.

Students can earn certificates in child and youth care, human services, substance abuse rehabilitation and more. Degree programs include an AS and BS in Mental Health and Human Services, and a Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling. All the mental health HS required course are offered in different formats

Grace Leonard is Dean of the College of Natural and Social Sciences at the University of Maine at Augusta, which delivers the AS and BS programs to locations across Maine. “We have a faculty who possess the credentials that reflect best practices for the State of Maine,” she says. “We’re proud to provide access to our programs to people in communities statewide. In fact, students can take all courses in the mental health and human services major online.”
