Limitations of HTML Tables
Let me say a few words about tables. And first what you may have noticed or may not have, a screen reader like JAWS reading the screen just automatically reads from left to right across one line, left to right across the next line. So if you have a table, if your table makes sense being read across the screen left to right, I'm home free. If you have a table in which you have let's say, a newspaper article where one column comes down here, and you get to the bottom of that column and it continues at the top of here, my screen reader reads part of this line and then jumps to the next column, part of the next one and I've got garbage.
A blind student is really going to have more trouble, a lot of trouble, what do you do? That's a tough decision, because sometimes, I recognize that some material is really presented much more clearly and efficiently for most people in a tabular layout. And that may really be when it comes down to it what you need to do and have to do, and you might put a verbal description somewhere else to help a blind student.
