PRIORITY: INCREASING QUALITY Upgrading UMS’s Technology Infrastructure
Proposal:
Improve and increase the use of technology in all mission areas by upgrading UMS’s technology infrastructure, notably in distance-learning classrooms and with library services.
Public Benefits:
Enhanced quality of instruction and student learning; greater accessibility of certain programs and services in UMS’s teaching, research, and public service outreach mission areas; more efficient and cost-effective administrative functions; clients of UMS programs, services, and outreach initiatives would have greater access to individuals and resources for which travel might otherwise be necessary.
Background:
Modern technology is essential for the operation of any complex organization. It is an even more critical component for educational institutions that must provide access to information and deliver education to a broad constituency spread across a large geographical area. UMS can improve the quality of education and its administrative efficiency and cost-effectiveness by upgrading its technological infrastructure in classrooms, libraries, video conferencing facilities, and other areas of operation. In recent years, State Government has undertaken similar upgrades and has made great strides administratively by providing electronic access to many of its services and resources.
