Common Core State Standards Summit
Common Core State Standards Summit – November 6, 2015
This Summit was specifically focused on the implementation of the common core state standards within mathematics and English Language Arts, and how this will translate for higher education. The audience should included faculty from math and English, developmental faculty who may teach within those disciplines, learning support/tutoring directors, CAOs, and admissions/enrollment professionals.
The goals for the Summit included 1) promoting a common understanding of the initiatives underway in Maine [to include both CCSS and proficiency-based curriculum and diploma]; 2) building awareness of new learning approaches occurring within K-12 and implications for higher education, 3) beginning a dialogue on the use of Maine DOE assessments for higher education course placement within mathematics and English Language Arts, and 4) identifying collective next steps that we can take to ensure the success of these students as they move to our institutions.
